Speaking in Wundanyi Sub County moments after donating food, Taita Taveta County First lady, Mrs. Hope Mruttu applauded families providing shelter, food and clothing to orphans in the County saying they have saved the lives of many children.
"Adopting these children gives them hope for the future. If it was not for your big loving hearts all these children would be roaming in the streets. As a mother i therefore thank you with all my heart," said Mrs. Mruttu.
Mrs. Mruttu urged political leaders and non-governmental organization
to priorities vulnerable children when giving out bursary and other
support.
On behalf of the caregivers, their chair Mrs. Hope Wawuda acknowleged the county government and the first lady for issuing them with foodstuffs saying it is a timely intervention as the county faces drought season.
"Most of the time we have seen relief food being taken to children's home and the elderly. It is good that our County first lady has remembered us as families who are taking care of orphans in our homes. I am sure this will not be the last day," she said.
This comes after the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) issued drought alert for 10 counties including Taita Taveta as counties experiencing a decline in food and livestock production.
